Come on out to the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center next Saturday for “Feel the Nosi,” an evening of poetry, performance, Nuyo-son and noise. Edwin Torres and myself will be celebrating our latest books, Yes Thing No Thing and Hi-Density Politics, and performing material from the books backed by the trademark soundscapes of Spanic Attack’s new in-house band Los Guapos Planetas.
WHEN: Sat. Jan. 29, 7pm
WHERE: Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, 2nd floor theater space
107 Suffolk Street (between Rivington and Delancey St.; F train to Delancey St.)
Lower East Side
WHAT ELSE: 5$ cover; cheap drinks, discounted books, great space, post-show revelry
This is the first of what will hopefully become a regular series of Spanic Attack events at the CSV. Do spread the word!
Ilusos, an artist book by Edwin Torres featuring my Spanish translations, has just been published in Puerto Rico by Atarraya Cartonera. Copies of this limited edition are available by emailing the publisher.
Rigoberto González has just listed Hi-Density Politics among his Small Press Highlights for 2010 on the National Book Critics Circle blog.
Last Friday was the opening of the “See What I Mean” exhibit at the legendary Taller Boricua in El Barrio. I have two BlackBerry installations on display, one of which also appears in text-only version in my new book. I performed at the opening with the great Monxo López on guitar. Jorge Suberví skillfully accompanied Monxo on the pandero. Edwin Torres added improv choreography for that righteous Noricua kick. A great time was had by all.
The exhibit is up until mid-January, and I will also be reading January 13 as part of the Taller Boricua poetry series.
My new book, Hi-Density Politics, is out from BlazeVOX. You can buy it here.
My review of Carlos Oquendo de Amat’s cult classic 5 metros de poemas, recently reissued in a bilingual edition by the fine folks at Ugly Duckling Presse, is now live at BOMB. Check it out and leave a comment.
I’ll be reading on Saturday afternoon at this great weekend-long event put together by the fine folks at Boog City. 88 poets! See below. Let’s rally the tropes (sic)!
